Local comedian Julian Dutton to make a stand about things and defend liberalism in the face of current threats

Comedian, actor and author Julian Dutton has been selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate in the forthcoming council elections in Llandovery, Camarthenshire.

He told Beyond The Joke: “I thought I’d take a leaf out of Eddie Izzard’s book and get involved – I feel it’s time more than ever to make a stand about things and defend liberalism in the face of current threats.”

Dutton co-created, wrote and performed in the BBC1 show Alistair McGowan’s Big Impression which won a British Comedy Award and later became The Big Impression. Dutton did impressions of celebrities as diverse as John Le Mesurier and Dustin Hoffman. More recently he co-wrote the children’s series Scoop and Pompidou, the visual comedy starring Matt Lucas.

Dutton is the author of a number of books. His most recent is Keeping Quiet: Visual Comedy in the Age of Sound which was published by Chaplin Books in 2015.

The election will take place on May 4.
